About the Quanthare
The quanthare is a small creature not dissimilar to the earth haggis. Like its highland counterpart, the quanthare is able to endure extremely adverse conditions.
The creature has long rabbit-like ears and decidedly unrabbit-like teeth, capable of tunnelling into the rocks in order to get at the quantanium that is its natural foodstuff.
The quanthare, possibly due to its propensity for quantanium, is able to move with some considerable alacrity. It is believed their diet also makes them highly explosive when agitated.
There are no known quanthares in captivity. Rumor has it that the ill-fated Morphologis expedition of 2952 had spent 'literally hours' setting up and was close to capturing a living specimen. Sadly, the entire expedition was wiped out by a massive explosion. Some say this was due to attack by a rogue A2 bomber, but as any competent organization can cover for such eventualities, it is more likely that they had been successful and captured a quanthare which subsequently exploded.
Subsequent attempts to set up a quanthare sanctuary have also failed. The most notable, the Toxic-Mike home for lost quanthares was shut down after entry queues became too long and the staff ran out of tissues to give to crying influencers. Some claim the scantuary was just a joke anyway.
